KARACHI, Pakistan (AA) - Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met Pakistan's army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir in Islamabad on Saturday, amid efforts to revive stalled peace talks between the US and Iran to end their eight-week war.

The meeting, according to a short video posted by the Iranian embassy on US social media platform X, was also attended by Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, National Security Adviser and head of Inter-Services Intelligence Lt. Gen. Asim Malik, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei, and Iran's ambassador Reza Amiri Moghadam.

Although the embassy offered no further details, Pakistani sources told Anadolu that the two sides discussed matters related to a potential second round of talks between Washington and Tehran in the coming days.

Araghchi arrived in Pakistan late Friday for what Pakistani officials say could pave the way for the second round of negotiations. The first round was held in Islamabad two weeks ago, but failed to reach an agreement. Those talks came after Pakistan brokered a two-week ceasefire on April 8, which was later extended by US President Donald Trump.

Araghchi will also hold talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.

Meanwhile, the White House said US special envoy Steve Witkoff and adviser Jared Kushner will also travel to Pakistan on Saturday.

Iran has refused to hold direct talks with the US, and said observations would be conveyed to Pakistan.
